    Indications:

Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD) – Struvite uroliths dissolution.

    Not Recommended For:

    • Growing kittens, pregnant or nursing cats.
    • Patients with concurrent use of urinary acidifiers, non-struvite urolithiasis, kidney disease, hypokalemia, or metabolic acidosis.
    • Long-term feeding (more than 6 months) without monitoring acid base status (because of urine acidifying properties).

    Evidence-Based Clinical Nutrition:

    • Clinically tested to dissolve struvite stones in as little as 7 days (Average 13 days). 1
    • Research shows that surgery is not 100% effective for removing uroliths. In a study of dogs and cats, uroliths remain in the urinary tract following cystotomy in as many as 14% of canine and 20% of feline patients.2

    Additional Info:

    • Prescription Diet® s/d® Felinemay be a viable alternative to perineal urethrostomy in feline patients with struvite-associated urethral obstructions.
    • After an initial feeding period (2-3 months) of Prescription Diet® s/d® Feline pet food, feed Prescription Diet® c/d® Multicare Feline or Prescription Diet® w/d® Feline to help avoid recurrence of FLUTD. Note: Urine pH and urinalysis should be monitored periodically as indicated in the management of FLUTD. Urine pH of individual cats may vary due to complicating factors such as time of feeding before urine collection, type of urine collection, individual animal variation, or test methodology.

  • Feeding Guide

How to adjust feeding amounts to maintain optimal weight.

Adjust feeding amounts as necessary to maintain optimal weight. Monitoring your patient's condition will assure the nutritional recommendation provides the best results.

    • Reinforce with clients to feed Prescription Diet dry food & canned food exclusively.
    • Gradually transition to the new food over a 7 day period.
    • s/d® Feline is not recommended for long-term feeding (over 6 months) unless urolithiasis and/or FLUTD recur when Prescription Diet® c/d® Multicare Feline is being fed. If s/d® Feline is fed long-term, the cats acid-base status, potassium levels and renal function should be periodically evaluated.
