  • Key Benefits

Prescription Diet s/d Wet Cat Food is specially formulated by veterinarians to help manage cats with Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD). This wet food has an irresistible taste that cats will love.

These characteristics make Prescription Diet s/d, veterinary wet cat food, a useful nutritional aid for cats with struvite urolithiasis:

    KEY FEATURES KEY BENEFITS
Magnesium Reduced Helps minimize concentrations of this struvite building block.
Target Urinary pH 5.9 – 6.1 Increases the solubility of struvite crystals, aiding in dissolution.
Antioxidants Added Defend cells from free radical oxidation, promoting a healthy immune system.

    Indications:

    Struvite dissolution

    Not Recommended For:

Growing kittens, pregnant or nursing cats.

Patients with concurrent use of urinary acidifiers, non-struvite urolithiasis, kidney disease, hypokalemia, or metabolic acidosis.

Long-term feeding (more than 6 months) without monitoring acid base status (because of urine acidifying properties).

    Evidence-Based Clinical Nutrition:

Clinically proven to dissolve struvite stones in as little as 6 days (Average 13 days).1

Research shows that in as many as 20% of cases, uroliths were still found in the urinary tract after cystotomy in cats.2

Struvite uroliths should be medically dissolved, as this is a highly effective approach.3

    Additional Info:

After urethral obstruction is removed, Prescription Diet s/d Wet Cat Food may be a viable alternative to perineal urethrostomy for long-term management in cat patients with struvite-associated disease.

After an initial feeding period (2-3 months) of Prescription Diet s/d Cat food, feed Prescription Diet c/d Multicare Cat food or Prescription Diet c/d Multicare Stress + Metabolic Cat Food to help avoid recurrence of FLUTD. Note: Urine pH and urinalysis should be monitored periodically as indicated in the management of FLUTD. Urine pH of individual cats may vary due to complicating factors such as time of feeding before urine collection, type of urine collection, individual animal variation, and test methodology.
